Year 3 Mrs.Finch, "Georgina, you are doing it wrong. Stay inside the lines when you are colouring, otherwise it looks scruffy."

This film is all about saying "fuck you" to people like Mrs. Finch. Well not so much her as a person, in fact she was pretty nice, but more to the idea that conforming is correct and placing that crayon beyond the boundaries is wrong or "scruffy". Beautiful Losers suggests that "scruffy" is ok, because "scruffy" might mean something to someone.

In the early 1990s a small group of young social outcasts came together through the sub-cultures of skateboarding, street art and punk to express their unique outlook on life.

Opening shots include Ed Templeton playing the accordion and Stephen Powers getting a buzz cut, real people with real ideals, doing real things in real life. Beautiful Losers is most definitely a film about art but what makes it unqiue and even more inspiring is the artists around which it is based. A collection of painful memories and harsh realities encapsulated by each personal style, offers reassurance to an audience of equally beautiful losers. This do-it-yourself mentality, portrayed by a humble cast forms the foundations of Beautiful Losers allowing the individual to imagines a world outside of society and colour outside the lines.

"Life isn't just about problems it's problematic"
Chris Johanson.
